How Long Does It Take To Learn Spanish, Is Not An Easy Question
I am often asked, “how long does it take to learn Spanish?” I’m afraid that this is largely a million-dollar question and one for which there is no common answer.
As an example, you want to take an individual’s language ability into consideration, and also whether a student will be ready to put in the required amount of effort. Also, the answer would depend principally on which Spanish language learning program the person choses to use. Furthermore, the time period it takes to aquire the skills to speak Spanish would also rely on factors like whether the scholar will be using personal tutoring, or whether they will be studying in a class environment. Also, does the student be using one of the many home study programs and will they be studying in their home country or in the country where Spanish is spoken as a native language. Above all, one needs to think about how good the teacher or the program is.
Because these variables will have such a direct impact on how long does it take to learn Spanish, it is just not possible to provide a single response to this query. In reality, I have personally met students who after half a year, managed to communicate confidently in conversational Spanish, but I have also met people who have attempted to study the Spanish language for a number of years, albeit on an on and off basis, and yet after many years they can hardly get by.
So, rather than attempting to come up with a specific period of time to reply to the question, “how long does it take to learn Spanish?”, I am going to offer what in my experience is the swiftest process for learning Spanish. And the 1st tip is that a student of any foreign language should try to use as many opportunities to interact with the language as possible.
First, the classroom environment takes much too long if it is the only method being used. I much like a good quality home study technique that will allow you to proceed at your own pace and if you are really serious about learning the language, it’ll be at a much faster speed than the classroom will produce.
Pick up a good quality interactive program that includes written Spanish, audio lessons, and multimedia lessons. The audio lessons should be in a position to be downloaded onto a portable gizmo like an iPod or iPod like listening device. If you’re going to learn the language, you’ll want to be able to read it, write it, speak it, and understand it ( listening abilities ), If your program doesn’t address all of these areas, it shouldn’t be used alone, but will require supplemental material.
One such good quality program is Rocket Spanish. It is a program that addresses all 4 areas of language learning and will supply a superb foundation of basic Spanish and have you talking conversational Spanish swiftly. Another high quality program is the well known Rosetta Stone program which also addresses each of the 4 major elements of language learning. Rosetta Stone offers 2 versions of their Spanish program, a South American Spanish version and a “Spain” version. Rosetta Stone, is more expensive than Rocket Spanish and it will take you a little longer to really develop conversational Spanish, but it will also provide a great foundation for future learning.
So while there’s no specific answer to the question, “How long does it take to learn Spanish?” there are things you can do to maximise the velocity with which you learn the language. If you actually desire to learn Spanish rapidly, Rocket Spanish and Rosetta Stone Spanish taken together will work synergistically to quickly develop your language speaking skills. But no program will make you a truely fluent Spanish speaker by itself. Continued exposure to the language and practice with talking and reading it are required. One method of realizing this and repeatedly accelerating your Spanish language abilities is to sign up for “Puerta del Sol Audio Magazine” or “Think Spanish Audio Magazine” that areĀ for intermediate-to-advanced Spanish language learners”, and to join a Meetup group near you that is focused on learning Spanish.
